Photo Phrenzy > Scream 2: This Sequel Sucks!
-
Squat for more power...
Here was the start - I wanted to poke a little fun at the fact that he is trimming down. Used a "Face in a hole" app to start things off.
-
Am I Arty, Or What?
ToonPaint - RIGHT out of the gate. I have to stop using that app. I get carried away.
But I LOVED what it did, and it made me think I could move in a couple of different directions.
-
"Building" Muscle (See What I Did There?)
When I saw the black and white version - I immediately thought of "The Scream" - But I wanted to try to flex a bit before I went that way. Really see if there was something else in there...
-
City Scape
You see posters like this in NY. I love that people walk right by a poster of Lil Kim, thrusting her cootch out into the face of a bloated man who appears to be begging for mercy - and nobody notices.
Maybe they would notice the sausage sling on this one...
-
15 Minutes of Meh...
Tried it. Liked it well enough to think, "What if I placed THAT on the side of the building?"
It sucked on the building, by the way.
-
Zine Time!
So I thought I would try out a Zine style look. Low Budget, Photocopy cover type of thing.
I LOVE this one. One of my favorite ones in the set.
-
Mixed Like Oil And Water.
More of the Zine Style, but mixed with the city backdrop.
Didn't work. Just didn't tie together.
-
Flogging A Dead Horse (Televised version)
Old Style Zine Image?
Yep.
Old Style Television?
Yep.
Together?
Nope.
-
Let this be a lesson...
Just because you CAN do something, doesn't mean that you should.
This one is the essence of lameness. I hang my head in shame.
-
Mr. Motivator!
Oh.
Now this... THIS is quite different. I like this one alot.
Please notice the Black Sabbath reference.
-
-
Scream-Be-Silent...
Touch Retouch on the iPhone - and the Scream dude is vanquished into the void.
Look - I knew it was going to come back to the Scream thing. But I HAD to see if the other roads had any merit. AND - for the record: I was pretty happy with a few of them. I'm glad that I took my time.
-
Subtle change to the original?
I just didn't think anyone would be able to tell what I had changed from the original... Had to work a little harder.
-
Again?
Toonpaint, again.
I know - but the app is GOOOOOD.
Really Good.
And I am getting better at using it.
(I hope)
-
Paintin' Ain't Easy, Yo...
Here's my first attempt at repainting this.
Why the hell did I use pink? Seriously... I think I may have had a stroke, or something. I can't think of another reason why I would make that decision.
I painted 6 different versions of this. I am NOT going to make you sit through all of them (as if anyone is reading this, anyway).
-
Final Stroke
So here was my final painted version.
Remember kids, I can not paint. If I made a mitake in here - it's because I am a hack. A no talent hack who has technology that can make up for my short comings.
Like George W. Bush.
-
Art Cred...
Maybe if I made it look like someone was painting it, people would "get it" and se what I was trying to do with the overall image?
But you lose a LOT of the original image. You know - the one that you worked so hard on...
(Nods head slowly... It hurts, but some things have to be done.)
-
Another Angle...
Still working with the same idea, but a different angle.
Pitcherday noticed that they were both being painted outside, and that my image was decidedly more of a "Studio Piece."
She's very Smart. You should listen to her.
Start here.

Scream 2
So there it is. My sequel to the masterwork.
I had a TON of fun doing this stache. I had to really stretch to be able to even get the "painting" part to look close to right. In the end, I may have given up a little resolution for the final image (the last app that I used to place it in this studio setting dropped my size / quality by about 45%) - but I gained in overall composition and execution.
I loved that the painter had his arm bent, and it looked like he was sort of comparing the lines on the arm to his own. Maybe just a small thing, but it seemed like it was meant to be.
